# Import Notion pages to train your AI agent

> Connect a Notion workspace to an intoCHAT agent, import up to 25 pages at a time, what is read from each page, keeping pages in sync and disconnecting.

If you keep FAQs, policies or product notes in Notion, you can import those pages into your agent's knowledge. intoCHAT only reads the pages you share with it. It never changes anything in Notion.

> The **Notion** option appears under **Add knowledge** only when Notion is set up for intoCHAT. If you don't see it, Notion import isn't available to you. You can export the pages from Notion as Markdown or PDF and upload them as [files](/en/docs/files) instead.

## Connect a workspace

1. Open the agent's **Knowledge** tab and choose **Notion** under **Add knowledge**.
2. Click **Connect Notion**. Notion's consent screen opens.
3. On Notion's screen, choose the workspace and the pages intoCHAT may read, then confirm.
4. You return to the **Knowledge** tab, which shows "Notion connected".

The connection belongs to your intoCHAT account, so all your agents can import from it. You can connect more than one workspace; a **Workspace** menu then lets you switch between them. If you cancel on Notion's screen, nothing is connected. If you take longer than 10 minutes there, start again from the **Notion** option.

A page is missing from the list? Click **Share pages** to open Notion's screen again and give intoCHAT more pages or another workspace.

## Import pages

1. Find the pages in the list. It shows the pages shared with intoCHAT, most recently edited first, with the date each was last edited. Use **Search pages by title…** to search, or **Load more pages** to see more.
2. Tick the pages you want, up to 25 at a time.
3. Click **Import … pages** and wait while intoCHAT reads them from Notion.

When pages were added or updated, training starts by itself. A message sums up the import, for example "3 added, 1 updated, 0 unchanged". Each page becomes a source of type **Notion**, named after the page title.

- **All or nothing.** If one page can't be read, or the pages would go over the agent's character limit, nothing is imported and your knowledge stays as it was. The message names the page when it can. Over the limit, intoCHAT shows **Character limit reached**.
- **Empty pages are skipped.** A page without readable text is listed as "skipped (no text)".
- **Subpages aren't included.** Select them as pages of their own.
- **Importing a page again updates it.** The existing source gets the new text instead of a second copy. Pages you already imported show "imported, importing again updates it".
- **Very long pages fail.** A page of more than about 12,000 blocks can't be read. Split it into smaller pages.
- **Large imports can time out.** If reading takes more than about 90 seconds, you see "Reading these pages from Notion is taking too long. Import fewer pages at once." Nothing is imported then.

## What is read from a page

| Content | What the agent gets |
|---|---|
| Headings, paragraphs, bulleted and numbered lists, to-do items, toggles, quotes, callouts | The text, with headings and lists kept |
| Tables, code blocks, equations, dividers | The text |
| Columns and synced blocks | The text inside them |
| Images, videos, audio, files, PDFs, bookmarks, embeds, link previews | Only the caption |
| Subpages, databases, links to other pages, tables of contents, breadcrumbs | Nothing |

Blocks nested inside other blocks are read up to six levels deep. Of a page's properties, only the title is read. Entries of a database are pages in Notion: if they are shared with intoCHAT, they appear in the list and you can import them one by one.

Check what was read with **Preview the text** on the source. See [Managing sources](/en/docs/managing-sources).

## Notion pages stay private

- Notion pages are never shown as source links under a reply. Only website pages get links.
- The agent sees a page's title, but not its Notion address, so it can't pass the link to visitors.
- intoCHAT saves its access to your workspace in encrypted form.

> Anything in the agent's knowledge can end up in an answer. Only import pages whose text you would share with visitors.

## Keep pages up to date

Imported text doesn't change when you edit the page in Notion. To pick up your edits:

- **Import the page again.** It updates the source and trains it.
- **Turn on auto-resync.** On a daily or weekly schedule, intoCHAT checks when each Notion page was last edited and reads only the edited ones again. Only pages whose text changed are retrained. Notion pages don't use website crawls. See [Auto-resync](/en/docs/managing-sources#auto-resync).

Notion records edit times to the minute. An edit made in the same minute as the last read is picked up with the next edit after it.

If a page was deleted in Notion or is no longer shared with intoCHAT, the check fails with a message on the source, and the saved text stays in your knowledge. Delete the source if you no longer want it.

## Disconnect a workspace

Click **Disconnect** and confirm. intoCHAT deletes its access to that workspace.

- Pages you imported stay in all your agents' knowledge as they are now.
- They are no longer kept in sync. Auto-resync marks them with "Notion was disconnected. Reconnect Notion and import this page again to keep it in sync."
- To sync them again, connect the workspace again and import the pages again.
- To remove the text from your agent, delete the sources on the **Knowledge** tab.

Disconnecting in intoCHAT doesn't remove intoCHAT from Notion. To revoke its access there too, open **Settings → Connections** in Notion. If you only revoke it in Notion, auto-resync shows "Notion access was revoked. Reconnect Notion to keep this page in sync."

## When something goes wrong

| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| "No pages are shared with intoCHAT yet." | Click **Share pages** and choose pages on Notion's screen. |
| "intoCHAT can no longer read this page. Share it with the intoCHAT connection in Notion again." | Share the page with intoCHAT again in Notion, or use **Share pages**. |
| "This page was deleted in Notion or is no longer shared with intoCHAT." | Share it again, or delete the source. |
| "Notion is limiting requests right now. Try again in a few minutes." | Wait a few minutes, then import again. |
| **Reconnect Notion** appears | intoCHAT's access was revoked or can't be used anymore. Click it to connect again. |
