Notion as knowledge

An AI chatbot that answers your customers from your Notion pages

Connect your Notion workspace, pick the pages that hold your FAQs, policies and product notes, and your intoCHAT agent answers visitors from them on your website, Help Page, Slack and email. The connection is read-only, edits in Notion can sync daily or weekly, and the pages themselves stay private.

Example: a software company answering from its Notion help pages

Visitor: Can I move my account to annual billing in the middle of a month?

Agent: Yes. You can switch to annual billing at any time under Settings, Billing. The unused part of your current month is credited against the annual price, and the new period starts the day you switch.

Visitor: And if I change my mind after switching?

Agent: Annual plans can be refunded in full within 14 days of the switch. After that the plan runs to the end of the year. If you want, I can pass your question to our team so they can look at your account.

Your answers live in Notion, your customers ask on your website

Many teams write their support knowledge in Notion first: the returns policy, the onboarding guide, the internal FAQ that grew out of past tickets. Customers never see it, so they ask the same questions by chat and email, and someone copies the answer out of Notion by hand. Pasting those pages into a chatbot works once, then goes stale the first time someone edits the page. intoCHAT imports the Notion pages you choose as knowledge, keeps them in step with your edits, and lets the agent answer from them without exposing your workspace.

Why train your AI agent on Notion

Keep writing where you already write. The agent picks it up from there.

  • Read-only, and only what you share

You choose the workspace and the pages on Notion's own consent screen. intoCHAT can read those pages and nothing else, and it never changes anything in Notion.

  • Headings, lists and tables kept

Paragraphs, headings, bulleted and numbered lists, toggles, callouts, quotes, tables and code blocks are read with their structure, so a policy page arrives as a policy page, not a wall of text.

  • Edits in Notion reach the agent

Import a page again to update it, or turn on auto-resync: daily or weekly, intoCHAT checks which pages were edited in Notion, reads only those again and retrains only the text that changed.

  • Your Notion stays private

Notion pages are never linked under a reply, and the agent sees a page title but not its Notion address, so it cannot hand the link to visitors.

  • One connection for every agent

The Notion connection belongs to your intoCHAT account, so each of your agents can import from it. Connect several workspaces and switch between them in one menu.

How to turn Notion pages into chatbot answers

  1. Connect your workspace

On the agent's Knowledge tab, choose Notion under Add knowledge and click Connect Notion. On Notion's screen, pick the workspace and the pages intoCHAT may read, then confirm. You come back to the Knowledge tab with "Notion connected".

  2. Pick the pages

The list shows the shared pages, most recently edited first. Search by title, tick up to 25 pages and click Import. Training starts by itself, and a message sums up what was added, updated or unchanged.

  3. Check what was read

Each page becomes a source of type Notion, named after its title. Open Preview the text on a source to see exactly what the agent knows, then ask a question about it in the Playground.

  4. Keep it current

Switch on auto-resync on the Knowledge tab and choose Daily or Weekly. Missing a page? Click Share pages to give intoCHAT more pages or another workspace.

Notion import in detail

  • Up to 25 pages per import

Tick up to 25 pages at a time and import more in a second round. Importing a page you already have updates its source instead of adding a second copy, and pages without readable text are skipped.

  • All or nothing

If one page can't be read, or the pages would go over the agent's character limit, nothing is imported and your knowledge stays as it was. The message names the page when it can.

  • What is read from a page

Text blocks, tables, code, equations, columns and synced blocks are read, with nested blocks up to six levels deep. Images, videos, files and embeds give only their caption. Of the page properties, only the title is used.

  • Subpages and databases

Subpages, linked pages and databases are not pulled in automatically. Each subpage, and each database entry shared with intoCHAT, shows up in the list and can be imported as a page of its own.

  • Auto-resync without crawls

Auto-resync compares the edit time Notion records for each page and reads only the edited ones. Notion pages never use your plan's website crawls, and only pages whose text changed are retrained.

  • Ranked with your other knowledge

When sources overlap, Q&A pairs, priority sources, text snippets and files come before Notion pages, and Notion pages come before website pages. Mark a Notion page as priority with the star to put it first.

  • Encrypted access, easy to revoke

intoCHAT stores its Notion access in encrypted form. Disconnect deletes it; imported pages stay in your agents' knowledge until you delete them, but stop syncing.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Notion AI chatbot?

It is a chatbot that answers your customers from the pages you keep in Notion. In intoCHAT you connect a workspace, pick pages such as your FAQ, policies or product notes, and the agent uses their text, together with your website, files and Q&A pairs, to answer visitors in the chat widget, on the Help Page, in Slack and by email.

Can intoCHAT read my whole Notion workspace?

No. It can only read the pages you share with it on Notion's consent screen, and it never edits anything. To give it more pages later, click Share pages and select them in Notion. To take access away, disconnect in intoCHAT and remove the connection under Settings, Connections in Notion.

Do visitors see my Notion pages or links?

No. The agent uses the text to write its answers, but Notion pages are never shown as source links under a reply, and the agent doesn't know their Notion addresses. Keep in mind that anything in the agent's knowledge can end up in an answer, so only import pages whose text you would share with customers.

How does the chatbot stay up to date when I edit a page?

Imported text does not change by itself. Import the page again to update it right away, or turn on auto-resync, which checks daily or weekly which pages were edited in Notion and retrains only the ones whose text changed. Notion records edit times to the minute, so an edit made in the same minute as the last read is picked up with the next edit.

Are subpages and Notion databases included?

Subpages aren't imported with their parent page: select them as pages of their own. A database isn't read as a whole either, but its entries are pages in Notion, so the entries you share with intoCHAT appear in the list and can be imported one by one.

Are there limits on Notion pages?

Up to 25 pages per import. A page of more than about 12,000 blocks can't be read, so split very long pages, and an import that takes longer than about 90 seconds stops without importing anything; import fewer pages at once then. All imported text counts toward the agent's character limit: 100K characters on Free, 500K on Starter, 1M on Pro.

Which plan do I need for Notion?

Notion import is available on every plan, including Free. What differs is how much text one agent can hold and how many messages your agents can answer each month. See the pricing page for the full comparison.

Is intoCHAT an official Notion product?

No. intoCHAT is an independent product that connects to Notion through Notion's public API, the same way other tools do. It isn't affiliated with or endorsed by Notion. Notion is a trademark of its owner.
