Cart and checkout in chat

Chatbot add to cart: shoppers fill their cart in the conversation and check out on your store

Your agent puts the products a shopper asks for into a cart under its reply, with prices, pictures and stock from your Shopify or WooCommerce catalog. One click takes them to your own checkout with everything already in the cart.

Example: a sports shop on Shopify builds a cart in the chat

Visitor: I need trail running shoes for muddy paths, size 42.

Agent: The Ridge Trail GTX has a deep tread for mud and a waterproof upper, and size 42 is in stock. Shall I add a pair to your cart?

Visitor: Yes, and two pairs of the merino running socks, size M.

Agent: Done. Your cart has 1 × Ridge Trail GTX (42) and 2 × Merino running socks (M). The subtotal is shown in the cart below; shipping and taxes are added at checkout.

Visitor: Great. How do I pay?

Agent: Click Checkout in the cart. It opens our store checkout with both items already in the cart, and you choose shipping and payment there.

A good product answer is only half a sale

Your chatbot finds the right running shoe in the right size. Then the shopper has to open the product page, pick the size again, add it to the cart and do the same for the socks. Every step is a chance to get distracted and leave. With cart and checkout in intoCHAT, the conversation becomes the shopping trip. The agent adds what the shopper asks for, the cart shows what it costs, and the checkout button hands everything over to your store. Payment, shipping and taxes stay where they belong: in your store’s own checkout. There is no payment in the chat.

Why let shoppers build a cart in the chat

Fewer steps between a question and an order, with your store in charge of the price.

  • From answer to cart in one message

Shoppers ask the agent to add a product, change how many they want or remove an item. If a product comes in sizes or colours, the agent asks which one first.

  • Prices from your catalog, not the AI

The agent only picks the product, the variant and the quantity. Names, prices, pictures and stock come from your store’s public catalog, and a variant that does not exist or is sold out is refused.

  • Your own checkout, prefilled

On Shopify, one Checkout button opens your checkout with every item and quantity already in the cart. On WooCommerce, add-to-cart links put each item in your store’s cart.

  • A discount code that applies itself

Set one discount code per agent. On Shopify it is added to the checkout link, so Shopify applies it at checkout if it is valid.

  • No app, no API key

The cart reads the same public catalog as the product search. There is nothing to install in your shop admin and no permission to grant.

How to switch on the cart

  1. Connect your store

Connect your Shopify or WooCommerce store with Connect your website on the Actions tab, and keep its Search products and Get product details actions switched on.

  2. Turn on Cart and checkout

In the Cart and checkout card, check that your store appears under Store and turn on the switch. Store checkout is on by default.

  3. Choose how orders finish

Keep Store checkout, switch on Order by message (cash on delivery) as well or instead, and add a discount code if you want one.

  4. Try it in the Playground

Ask for a product, then ask the agent to add it to your cart, and click through to your checkout. An order sent by message from the Playground is a real order request.

What cart and checkout include

  • A cart under the reply

Each item with its picture, name, variant, quantity and price, the subtotal in your store’s currency, and a note that shipping, taxes and final prices are shown at checkout. Up to 20 different items and 99 of each.

  • Shopify and WooCommerce checkout

Shopify gets a cart link with all items. WooCommerce adds one product per link, so the cart shows an Add to cart link for each item and a View cart button.

  • Orders by message (cash on delivery)

Off by default. The shopper sends the cart with their name, phone, delivery address and notes in a form. You get an order request on the Leads tab, by email and as an order_request.created webhook, and confirm it with the customer.

  • Search by photo

Shoppers send a photo and ask whether you have something like it. The agent searches your connected store and shows up to 6 matching products as cards, built from what your store returned.

  • Five languages

The cart’s own words, such as Checkout, Subtotal and the order form, follow the widget language: English, German, French, Italian or Spanish. Product names stay as your store writes them.

  • A cart that stays with the chat

The cart belongs to the conversation, so it is still there when the shopper comes back to the same chat. They can ask the agent to show it again at any time.

Frequently asked questions

Can customers pay inside the chat?

No. There is no payment in the chat. The agent builds the cart and hands it to your store’s own checkout, where the shopper pays as usual. With orders by message, nothing is paid online at all: you confirm the order and take payment on delivery.

Which plans include cart and checkout?

Starter, Pro and Enterprise. Orders by message are capped per agent per calendar month: 100 on Starter, 1,000 on Pro and 10,000 on Enterprise. At the cap the order form says the shop cannot take more orders by message right now, and store checkout keeps working. Search by photo is also included from Starter, with 50, 200 or 1,000 photo searches per agent per day.

Which stores work with the chat cart?

Shopify and WooCommerce stores connected with Connect your website. Magento, VTEX, WordPress without WooCommerce and other websites can use the product search, but not the cart.

Can the AI make up a price or a discount?

No. Every line in the cart is built from what your store’s catalog returned: the name, the price, the picture and whether the variant can be bought. At checkout, your store charges its current prices. The discount code is the one you set; intoCHAT does not check that it exists, so create it in your store first.

How does the discount code work on WooCommerce?

WooCommerce links cannot carry a code, so the cart shows the code and asks the shopper to enter it at checkout. On Shopify, the code is added to the checkout link automatically.

Is the chat cart the same as the cart on my store?

No. The chat cart belongs to the conversation and is still there when the shopper comes back to the same chat, but it is not synced with the cart on your store. Clicking checkout or the add-to-cart links puts the items into your store’s cart.

Where is the cart offered?

In the website chat, in saved conversations. It is not offered in temporary chats, through the REST API or in tests with simulated customers.
