Chat Widget

What a chat widget is
The widget is what visitors actually see and click: a launcher button, a chat window, a message field and often a welcome message. Behind it sits a service that produces the replies, either people in a live chat tool or an AI chatbot.
Most widgets float above the page, so they are available everywhere without changing the site's layout. Some can also be placed inline, inside a page section.
How it works
The site owner pastes a script tag into the page, usually just before the closing body tag. The script loads the widget from the provider's server and connects it to the right account through an ID. Common options include:
- Look: colors, avatar, launcher icon and position on the left or right.
- Text: welcome message, input placeholder and suggested questions.
- Placement: floating bubble, inline frame or a direct link to a full-page chat.
- Platform support: plugins or snippets for systems such as WordPress or Shopify.
Example
A dental clinic adds a chat widget to its website. The bubble uses the clinic's brand color, and the welcome message says “Questions about treatments or opening hours? Ask here.” Two suggested questions, “Do you treat children?” and “Where can I park?”, show visitors what they can ask.
Why it matters for business chatbots
The widget is the first impression of a chatbot. A launcher that fits the site, a clear welcome message and useful suggested questions make it more likely that visitors start a conversation. Loading behavior matters too, because a widget should not slow the page down.
The intoCHAT chat widget
intoCHAT adds a chat bubble with one script tag placed before the closing body tag. You can also embed the agent inline with an iframe, share a direct link, or use the official WordPress plugin or a Shopify theme snippet. You can set the bubble, header and message colors, the agent avatar, launcher icon and tooltip, the input placeholder, left or right position, the welcome message and suggested questions. Brand import pulls your logo and colors from your website URL, and the “Powered by intoCHAT” label can be removed on any paid plan.
