How intoCHAT works on Squarespace
Squarespace has a Code Injection panel for adding scripts to every page of your site. intoCHAT goes into its Footer field, and a chat bubble appears in the corner of your pages. The agent answers from what you add to it, such as your Squarespace pages, PDFs and Q&A pairs, and says when it doesn't know instead of guessing. You set its look and greeting in intoCHAT, so the code in Squarespace never needs changing.
Install intoCHAT on Squarespace
Create and train your agent
Sign up for intoCHAT, create an agent and add your Squarespace site's address on the Knowledge tab. intoCHAT finds up to 500 pages, renders pages that need JavaScript, and lets you choose which to include.
Copy the script tag
Open the Share tab and copy the code under Bubble Chat. It already contains your agent ID.
Open Code Injection
In the Squarespace editor, open the Pages panel and click Custom Code at the bottom, then Code Injection. On version 7.0 sites, you'll find it under Website Tools.
Paste into Footer and save
Paste the script into the Footer field, not Header, and click Save. Then open your site in a private or incognito window to see the chat bubble with your Appearance settings.
The code for the Footer field
<script src="https://www.intochat.ai/api/embed.js" data-chatbot-id="YOUR_AGENT_ID"></script>Use Footer, not Header. Squarespace injects the Footer field before the closing body tag, and the script needs the page body to exist when it adds the chat bubble.
What the agent does on your Squarespace site
Learns from your pages
Paste your site address and intoCHAT finds pages through your sitemap and links. Pick the pages you want and exclude paths such as old blog archives with patterns.
Gives exact answers where it matters
Add Q&A pairs for questions you want answered a certain way, such as opening hours or delivery times. Q&A answers take priority over other sources.
Starts the conversation
Greet visitors with your own welcome message and suggested questions they can click, so they know what to ask.
Collects leads
Ask for an email address or phone number in the chat, then keep chatting, show a thank-you message or tell visitors your team will follow up. You get an email for every new lead.
Uses your brand colors
Import your logo and colors from your site address, or set colors, avatar, launcher icon and left or right position yourself.
Keeps every conversation
Search chat logs, filter them by date and read full transcripts to see what visitors ask and where your content has gaps.
Frequently asked questions
Which Squarespace plan do I need?
Squarespace offers Code Injection on its Core, Plus and Advanced plans and on some legacy billing plans. intoCHAT has its own free plan with 25 messages a month, so you can try the agent before paying for anything.
Does intoCHAT slow down my Squarespace site?
The script is a single file that loads at the end of the page body, after your content. The chat window runs in its own iframe served by intoCHAT, so its code stays separate from your site's code.
Why can't I see the chat bubble?
Check that the script is in the Footer field, not Header, because it needs the page body to exist when it runs. Squarespace may ask you to turn off custom code while you edit, so view your site in a private or incognito window. Also make sure the agent ID matches the one on the Share tab.
Does the chat appear on checkout pages?
No. Squarespace doesn't allow custom code on checkout pages, so the bubble shows on every other page but not during checkout. Shoppers can still ask about shipping, returns or sizes before they get there.
Can the agent search my Squarespace products live?
Usually not. Live product search reads a shop's own search results, and Squarespace often shows those only after JavaScript runs in the browser, so they can't be read live. Add your product, shipping and returns pages on the Knowledge tab instead, and retrain them when products change, because sources don't re-sync on their own.
Do I need to change the code when I edit the agent?
No. The script only carries your agent ID. Colors, position, welcome message, suggested questions and knowledge load from intoCHAT each time a page opens, so your changes appear without touching Squarespace.
