How intoCHAT works on Joomla

Joomla can output any HTML through a Custom site module. intoCHAT uses that: a module holding one script tag adds a chat bubble to the corner of every page. The agent answers from what you give it, such as your articles, PDFs and Q&A pairs, and says so when it doesn't know. Because the code lives in a module rather than in your template files, Joomla updates leave it in place.

Install intoCHAT on Joomla

  1. Create and train your agent

Sign up for intoCHAT, create an agent and add your Joomla site's address on the Knowledge tab. intoCHAT finds your pages through your sitemap and links and lets you pick which to include.

  2. Copy the script tag

Open the Share tab and copy the code under Bubble Chat. It already contains your agent ID.

  3. Switch to an editor that keeps scripts

TinyMCE, Joomla's default editor, removes script tags. In your user profile, set the editor to Editor - None or CodeMirror before you paste the code, and do this as a Super User.

  4. Create a Custom module

Go to Content > Site Modules, click New and choose Custom. Paste the script into the content field and pick a position your template shows on every page, such as footer in Cassiopeia. Set the title to Hide so it doesn't show on the page.

  5. Show it on all pages

On the Menu Assignment tab, set Module Assignment to On all pages and save. Reload your site: the chat bubble appears in the bottom corner, with the colors and position from the Appearance tab.

The code for your Custom module

<script src="https://www.intochat.ai/api/embed.js" data-chatbot-id="YOUR_AGENT_ID"></script>

Paste it as code with Editor - None or CodeMirror, or TinyMCE strips it on save. Any module position inside the page body works, because the bubble always appears in a fixed corner.

What the agent does on your Joomla site

  • Learns from your Joomla articles

Paste your site address and intoCHAT finds up to 500 pages through your sitemap and links. Exclude paths with patterns, such as login or search pages, so only useful content is read.

  • Uses your documents too

Upload the PDF, Word, Excel or PowerPoint files your site links to, or add text snippets and Q&A pairs. Q&A answers take priority over other sources.

  • Fits multilingual sites

The agent replies in the language the visitor writes in, so one agent can answer visitors on every language version of your site.

  • Collects leads in the chat

A short form inside the conversation asks for an email address or phone number, on rules you set. Every new lead is emailed to you and up to five colleagues.

  • Matches your template

Set the bubble and header colors, avatar, launcher icon and position, or import your logo and colors straight from your website address.

  • Shows what visitors ask

Read full transcripts with search and date filters, and follow conversations, messages and leads over 7, 30 or 90 days.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an intoCHAT extension for Joomla?

No. intoCHAT installs on Joomla with a Custom module that holds one script tag, so there is no extension to install or update. WordPress is the only platform with an official intoCHAT plugin.

Why is my script tag removed when I save the module?

Joomla's default editor, TinyMCE, treats script as a prohibited element and strips it. Switch to Editor - None or CodeMirror in your user profile and paste the code again. Text filters also remove scripts for user groups other than Super Users by default, so save the module as a Super User.

Does intoCHAT slow down my Joomla site?

The script is a single file that loads inside the page body, where your module sits. The chat window runs in its own iframe served by intoCHAT, so its code stays separate from your template and extensions.

Can I add the code to my template instead of a module?

Yes, if your template has a field for custom code before the closing body tag, paste it there. Don't use a field that outputs code in the head, because the script needs the page body to exist when it runs. Avoid editing Cassiopeia's index.php directly, as Joomla updates overwrite it.

Do I need to change the module when I change the agent?

No. The script only carries your agent ID. Colors, position, welcome message, suggested questions and knowledge load from intoCHAT each time a page opens, so your changes appear without touching Joomla.

Does it work on a multilingual Joomla site?

Yes. The agent replies in the language each visitor writes in, using the content you trained it on. Add every language version of your pages on the Knowledge tab so it has the right material for each language.
