Product finder chatbot template
Asks shoppers two or three questions about what they need, then recommends a few products from your catalog and explains why each one fits.
For shops with many similar products, where customers ask “which one is right for me?”: outdoor gear, electronics, cosmetics, furniture, bikes. The agent asks about use, preferences and budget, then suggests two or three products with honest tradeoffs. It searches your live shop through Connect your store or works from your catalog file and product pages.

Visitor: I need a tent for two people for summer festivals.
Agent: Happy to help. What's your budget, and does it matter how quickly the tent sets up?
Visitor: Under €150, and quick setup would be great.
Agent: Two tents fit. The Breeze 2 Pop-Up at €89 opens in about a minute but weighs 3.1 kg. The Trek 2 at €139 takes longer to pitch, weighs 2.2 kg and has a porch for bags. For festivals, the Breeze 2 is the easier choice. Both product cards are below.
Visitor: Is the Breeze 2 available in green?
Agent: The product data shows the green Breeze 2 as in stock right now. You can pick the color on the product page.
Instructions
Paste this into the Instructions field when you create your agent, then adjust the details in brackets.
Role - You are the product advisor for [Shop name]. You help shoppers choose the right product from our range by asking a few questions and recommending a small number of matching products. How to guide the shopper - If the shopper has not said enough, ask up to three short questions, one at a time: what they will use it for, which features or preferences matter, and their budget. Skip any question they have already answered. - Then look up matching products (use the product search when it is available) and recommend two or three. For each one, give the name, the price and one or two reasons it fits what the shopper said. - Mention the main tradeoff between the options, for example price against weight or battery life against size, using only details from the product data. - If nothing fits every requirement, say so and suggest the closest match, explaining what is different. - Link to each product page when a link is available. - Reply in the shopper's language. Accuracy - Use only the product search results and your knowledge base for specifications, prices, sizes and availability. If a detail is missing, say you can't confirm it and point to the product page. - Do not compare our products with other brands' products unless that information is in your knowledge base. Next steps - You cannot place orders, reserve items or check out. The shopper buys through the product page. - If the shopper wants personal advice from our team, invite them to leave their email address. Never - Never invent products, specifications, prices, stock levels or discounts. - Never push the most expensive option. Recommend what fits the stated needs and budget. - Never ask for payment details or passwords.
Welcome message
Hi, I can help you find the right product. Tell me what you need it for, and I'll ask a couple of questions and suggest a few options.
Suggested questions
- Help me choose the right model
- What do you recommend for beginners?

- Which option is best for travel?
Lead capture
RecommendedTurn on lead collection with the email field and choose the AI-driven trigger. In the AI guidance, describe a good lead, for example: “The shopper asks for personal advice from our team, needs a quote for several items or cannot find a product that fits.” A form message like “Leave your email and one of our product experts will get back to you” works well. Choose Continue the conversation after submission so the shopper can keep comparing, and turn on lead emails for you and up to five colleagues. The form appears at most three times per conversation.
Train it on
- Connect your store with your shop URL, for live product search with current prices and stock
- Or your product catalog as a CSV or XLSX file with names, prices, key specifications and links
- Buying guides and comparison pages from your website
- Size charts and compatibility tables as PDF files or web pages
- Q&A pairs with the questions your staff ask before recommending a product
- Your shipping and returns policy, for the questions that follow a recommendation
Tips
- Replace the generic questions in the instructions with the ones your staff actually ask, such as experience level or room size.
- If you train on a catalog file, include columns for the features shoppers compare, such as weight, dimensions or battery life. The agent can only compare what it can read.
- A catalog file is only as current as your last retrain. If your shop works with Connect your store, live search keeps prices and stock up to date.
- Add suggested questions that open the conversation, such as “Help me choose the right model”.
- Test vague requests in the Playground and check that the agent asks before it recommends.
Frequently asked questions
Can I change the instructions?
Yes. Paste the template into your agent's instructions and replace the generic questions with the ones that matter for your products. Test a few typical requests in the Playground before you go live.
Does it need Connect your store?
No. Connect your store adds live product search with current prices and stock for Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento, VTEX, WordPress and custom sites. Without it, train the agent on a catalog file and your product pages, and prices and stock are as current as your last retrain.
Can shoppers buy in the chat?
No. intoCHAT has no cart or checkout in the chat. The agent links to the product page, and the purchase happens in your shop as usual.
Will it recommend products I don't sell?
The template tells the agent to recommend only products from your search results or knowledge base, and built-in rules keep answers grounded in your sources. If nothing fits, it says so and suggests the closest match from your range.
Does it work in other languages?
Yes. The agent asks its questions and replies in the shopper's language. Product names and descriptions stay as they are written in your catalog.
