Install the chat widget on WordPress

Add your intoCHAT agent to WordPress with the official plugin: install it, paste your agent ID under Settings, and use the shortcode for specific pages.

The official intoCHAT plugin adds the chat bubble to your WordPress site without editing theme files. It is free, open source under the GPL, and listed in the WordPress.org plugin directory as intochat.ai.

Before you start

  • A saved intoCHAT agent. Open its Share tab and, on the WordPress Plugin card, click Copy ID.
  • A WordPress account that can install plugins.

Install the plugin

  1. In your WordPress admin, go to Plugins → Add New (Add New Plugin in recent WordPress versions).
  2. Search for intochat.ai, then install and activate the plugin.
  3. Go to Settings → intochat.ai, paste your agent ID and save.
  4. Open your site. The chat bubble appears on every page, with the colors and position from the Appearance tab.

The plugin only connects your site to the agent. Training, instructions, appearance and lead settings stay in the intoCHAT dashboard, and changes there reach your site without touching the plugin again.

Show the chat on specific pages

By default the bubble appears on every page. In the plugin settings, you can choose instead to show it only where you place the [intochat] shortcode, for example in a Shortcode block on a contact or help page.

Without the plugin

If you prefer not to install a plugin, paste the script tag from the Share tab into your theme's footer, just before </body>. Use a child theme so a theme update doesn't remove it. See Install with a script tag.

Train the agent on your WordPress content

On the Knowledge tab, add your site's address. The crawl finds your pages and posts through the sitemap and links, and you choose which to include. There is no automatic re-sync: when you update a page, click Refresh from website on its source to read it again. See Website crawl.

WooCommerce shops

The plugin works the same way on WooCommerce. To let the agent search your products as well:

  1. Open the Actions tab and choose Connect your website.
  2. Paste your shop's address, including the folder if WordPress runs in one, such as /shop.
  3. intoCHAT checks the WooCommerce Store API and adds a Search products and a Get product details action.

Product search reads public product data from /wp-json/. If you use a security plugin such as Wordfence, make sure it doesn't block that path. See Connect your store and the WooCommerce guide.

Troubleshooting

  • No bubble. Check that the ID under Settings → intochat.ai matches the one on the Share tab.
  • Still no bubble after saving. Clear the cache of any caching plugin or host. If you use an optimization plugin that combines or delays JavaScript, exclude embed.js from it.
  • Testing while logged in. For a visitor's view, open the site in a private window. On phones, when you are logged in, the chat opens full screen below the WordPress admin bar.

More cases are covered in Troubleshooting. For an overview of what the agent can do on WordPress, see the WordPress integration page.
